Akoya Pearl Special Design Earrings are created by the oyster Pinctada fucata martensii. It is the smallest member of the saltwater oyster family. Akoya pearls, also known as "Japanese pearls," are cultivated in the Ehime, Mie, Oita, Nagasaki, and Kumamoto prefectures.
The ocean where Akoya oysters grow has a very low water temperature and constantly fluctuates with the seasons. The compression of aragonite crystals formed during these seasonal changes increases their brilliance and color potential. As Akoya oysters age longer, the calcium carbonate CaCO3 (with mother-of-pearl) grows more, developing the pearl and creating precious pearls. Akoya Pearl Special Design Earrings
