Larimar earrings, also known as dolphin stones, are stones. In 1974, Miguel Mendez, a jeweler in the Dominican Republic, realized that the stone he had been given as turquoise was a unique and previously unidentified stone. He named the stone LARIMAR, using the first four letters of his daughter Larissa's name and the letters of the Spanish word for sea, Mar. Larimar earrings, later research revealed that indigenous people had used this stone as a lucky stone for centuries, believing it to ward off evil. The natives believed the stone was part of the lost city of ATLANTIS and that it carried the power of dolphins. For this reason, it is also known as the ATLANTIS STONE and the DOLPHIN STONE.
