It is a stone from the SULPHATES group. It resembles Pyrite with some differences. It is a form of Pyrite that has been exposed to more intense heat. Marcasite Stone Set is formed in sedimentary rocks or coal beds. It has a pale brass yellow color. When extracted from the soil and processed, it turns tin white. Its bed mates are PYRITE, CALCITE, LIMONITE, CHALCOPYRITE, DOLOMITE, gypsum, and FLUORITE. It has MAGNETIC properties when heated. Its chemical formula is FeS2, but it also contains trace amounts of Cu and As.
