What is Moissanite?

Moissanite is a naturally occurring mineral found in limited quantities and in small particles on Earth known as silicon carbide.

Of all known precious stones, it is brighter and more luminous than diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds, and is considered the second most durable stone after diamonds.

Light falling on the world

In 1893, Nobel Prize-winning French scientist Dr. Henri Moissan believed he had discovered a diamond from outer space when he discovered this brilliant, diamond-like mineral in a crater deposit. Because this mineral possessed 2.5 times more fire than a typical diamond, a greater brilliance than a diamond, and a greater surface light reflectance, it was initially thought to be a type of diamond. Scientific research in the 1920s revealed that Dr. Moissan's discovery was not actually a diamond from outer space, but a different mineral of the same ancestry. It was named Moissanite in honor of Dr. Henri Moissan.

The difference of moissanite

Moissanite, with its exceptional durability and luster that surpasses all other gemstones, is a smart choice thanks to its affordable price compared to other precious stones. You can easily use this magnificent gemstone in place of a diamond by purchasing a larger stone for the same price as a diamond.

Impossible to distinguish from diamonds with the naked eye, Moissanite has an indisputable quality value, and it also has a magnificent shine and durability that lasts a lifetime.

What makes Moissanite "sparkle"? What gives Moissanite its extraordinary shine?

Refractive index (RI) is the most important optical property affecting a gemstone's brilliance potential.

Moissanite, with an RI ranging from 2.65 to 2.69, is more brilliant than other gemstones such as diamond (RI 2.42), ruby (RI 1.77) and sapphire (RI 1.77).

Is moissanite scratch resistant?

Moissanite is durable and hard. It is completely resistant to scratching and abrasion. Diamonds are the hardest gemstone used in jewelry, but after diamonds, moissanite, with a hardness of 9.25, is harder than all other gemstones, including rubies and sapphires.
